An Afternoon Gone Wrong

Quinn and I met up with another Holistic Mom and her kids to ride the rails on Monday afternoon.  Our plan was to ride to the end of the line, which is about a 30 minute ride, detrain, and then hop on the return trip train.  Quinn liked this plan.

As we got off our train at the end of the line another train was pulling away from the station.  Oops!  That was our return trip home.  We checked the schedule and the next train was in about an hour.  We decided to take a walk and check out the little town of Raritan.  It was a cold day and we all had our hands in our pockets.  As we were walking along Quinn tripped on the sidewalk and fell face first.  :(  My poor boy had his hands in his pockets so his face got the full force of the fall.  He really banged up his face and was bleeding like crazy.  I was worried he had knocked out a couple of teeth but was crying and bleeding so hard all I did was comfort him.

We sat on the sidewalk for about 20 minutes until he started feeling better and then headed back to the train station where we sat and waited for the train.  It was obvious he was really hurting because he had no interest in anything except putting his head on my shoulder.  We got on the train home and he fell asleep in my lap.

We got home, got under his favorite blanket with his buddy, and watched some Mickey Mouse Club and things started to improve.  He had a popsicle, a snack, water, and some motrin and I could tell he was feeling better.

He still had a big fat lip but seemed ok.  Don stopped at the store for ice cream and more popsicles so we had all the necessary supplies.    The afternoon that went all wrong ended on a sweet note.
