The Cantelo's

Last time we saw Ross, Tamara, Sami, and Ty was in September 2010.  This is what we all looked like back then.  Quinn was just about to turn 3.

The Idaho Cantelo's made their first trip back to Maryland since returning from Singapore so we headed south to Maryland to see them.  Don was able to spend the weekend with us but had to get back to work.

All the cousins, except Alex, getting ready to celebrate Mom's birthday.

It was quite a treat for Quinn to have his cousins around.  He loved to follow Sami and Ty around and always wanted to be near one of them.

Ross and family, Quinn, Mom and I went to Ocean City for a couple of days.  Ross & Tamara wanted to share a piece of their happy childhood and teen days in OC with the kids.

Free upgrade to ocean front?  Sure!

We wasted no time getting out on the beach.  Ross is keeping a watchful eye on Ty who spent many, many hours in the cold Atlantic.

From the mouth of babes at dinner our first night.

Hanging out on the boardwalk.

We had one full day enjoying the beautiful weather on the beach.

First Sami and Quinn covered Ty and starting building sand castles on him.  Then Q wanted his turn.  Quinn's little beach chair was set up next to mine, but he kept dragging it over to the end so he could sit with Sami or Ty.

Ty has a special touch with his hair that he calls his swag.  Q wanted a little swag too ;)

OC at night.

OC in the morning.

 What a fun week!

Our Week

This is what we've been up to this week.

BFF's

Chillaxin at the pool.

More playdates.  Building the longest hot wheels track EVER.

Trophy ceremony with the very funny Mr. Mike.

Fun at the playground.

And mama working on her macro class.

Summer Mornings at the White House

For any photo geeks like me, in a recent class we practiced out of focus images.  There's actually an art to creating the right level of out of focus attuned to the subject matter.  I could never get it quite right in class.  This image was not intentionally out of focus, but I love that it is.

More Macro Fun

This past week in my Macro class we were challenged to photgraph flowers.  Here are some of my favorites from the week.

And my favorite flower, the hibiscus.

Father's Day Fun

We have a tradition of going to the pool on Father's Day.  Remember this one from Don's first father's day as a dad?  We loved that Greenlake Wading pool.  Oh, the cuteness!

And his second father's day...

Third.

And I guess I blew it on the Fourth.

Unfortunately on this Father's Day it wasn't warm enough for the pool so instead we headed 'down the shore'.  First stop Surf Taco for some yummy fish tacos and then on to Jenkinsons for an afternoon of rides.

Dad's ride free!  I think this may have  been a gift for the moms.  So Don rode and rode and rode and rode.

I rode the train with Quinn.

Last stop was the big roller coaster.  Quinn loved it!

Father and son.  What a great day!

When we got home, this guy was in our front yard.

Role Model

Yesterday we received Quinn's "Progress Summary" from Sundance which is basically a pre-k report card.  Each of his primary teachers wrote a short personal summary about their year with Quinn.  One  that really stood out is from his Language Arts teacher:

A role model to his peers, Quinn made good choices in the classroom and was a kind and caring friend.

We couldn't ask for anything more.

Up Close

Don has been talking for a while about getting Quinn a microscope.  Quinn is such a little scientist that this is right up his alley.

We ordered a microscope, 25 pre-prepared slides, and some blank slides to make our own.  The pre-prepared slides had fun things like a bee's leg, rabbit testes, and dog stomach. The guys also looked at Don's blood, Quinn's hair, and a cicada wing.  Quinn's favorite was Don's blood :)

Blog Circle

As many of you know, I love ClickinMoms.  It's an amazing world wide community of women photographers from those just starting out with their first camera to uber talented professionals (and hobbyists).  The generosity and kindness of this community is like no other I've come across.

And you know I love their on-line classes.  I recently took a class called Fine Art and Visual Expression (FAVE).  It is an advanced level class so I was surrounded by really talented photographers.  It's inspiring.  After classes are over, we tend to still stick together a bit and form Facebook groups.  We have also started a blog circle.  A blog circle is a way to share our images with each other and push us to create images worth sharing.

I will be sharing the images on another blog as I like to keep this one more family oriented.  Here's the blog  http://amyewhitephotography.blogspot.com/   Once you check out my images, follow the link to view all the blogs.  I think there are about 6 of us in the circle.  We will be doing this once a month.

Enjoy!

Play Dates!

Now that school is out, Quinn is asking for a play date just about every day.  He keeps me busy planning but it makes my life easier when the kids are here because all of his friends are so kind.

Quinn hasn't had a chance to play with these 2 guys for quite some time because they were on opposite school schedules.  But now that summer is here they will see more of each other and will be in gymnastics together once a week.

Raise your hand if you love cupcakes!

School's Out for the Summer

Quinn had his last day of school on Wednesday.

Remember his first day?

Not quite the same face on his last day of school.  I don't remember the exact reason for this face but it was a 5 year old kind of issue.

Things were looking up after school.

Because of this, our end of school year ritual.

And our new favorite place, fro-yo.

Lazy mornings, pj's, pool, beach, summer here we are!
