Getting Settled

We are settling in to our little one bedroom "apartment" at the Marriott which will be our home for the next 20 days or so.  First order of business, swimming!

Sunday we headed to Ventura for lunch on the pier and a boat ride.  Not something you see every day.

Loving life eating oceanside.

When we left the hotel in Thousand Oaks, it was sunny and warm.  I thought to pack a jacket just in case and it was much needed.  The area was socked in with fog and it was pretty chilly.

Getting ready for our boat ride out to the Channel Islands.  We did the wildlife tour so we stayed on the boat the whole time.

The Anacapa Arch that has been much photographed.

We were disappointed in the number of dolphins we saw on this trip.  We saw maybe 30?  Usually we would see hundreds, if not thousands of dolphins.  Humpback whales have also been spotted in the area although we didn't see them.  We did see sea otters, sea lions, and a bald eagle.  This was my best dolphin shot (with the phone).

On Monday the little guy was not feeling so well so we spent much of our day like this in our room.  We had to hang out anyway to wait for Don's car to be delivered.  And Don had to start work after a 4 week "break".  Although last night he mentioned he could probably use a real vacation :)

Funny that he perked up for an evening swim.

Does it get any better than this?

My car was delivered on Tuesday and it was nice to have something familiar.  Even Quinn was pretty excited to be back in the car.   Can't you tell?

Adjusting the GPS from region 8 to region 2.

Today I visited Quinn's school for a parents-only orientation.  I continue to be very impressed with the school and happy with our choice.  I requested a special meet & greet with Quinn's teacher so we will go to the school tomorrow to meet his teacher.  Slowly but surely we are getting settled.

Heading West

Friday we started the next chapter of our lives.  We said goodbye to a house that we loved so much.  Quinn and I shared some tears over leaving our house and our NJ friends.  Quinn wanted to know why we couldn't put the house on a truck and move it to CA.  And Don couldn't get out of Jersey fast enough.  I took this one last picture as we drove away.

On our way.

Looks like California to me.

We scheduled an afternoon flight out of Newark so that we wouldn't have to rush Quinn out of the house in the morning and we could take our time saying goodbye and making sure everything was settled.  It really worked out nice.  Until we landed at LAX on a Friday at 5 pm.  Traffic anyone?

After a long trip to the hotel and a long nap for Quinn at 5 pm, we ate dinner nearby, and crashed.  Well except Quinn who was well rested after his nap.  I set him up in a chair with his iPad and earphones and set my alarm for midnight.   By that point he was ready for sleep.

This morning we are chilling, texting with friends, running errands, and starting this new chapter in our lives.

Farewells

This past week we have said lots of good-byes.  I'm not sure that we will miss NJ but we will certainly miss all the special friends we have made over the last 4 1/2 years.

Sunday:  we had our last NJ dinner out with the Mirzwa Family.  These boys are going to miss each other but we promised to write letters and skype.

Monday:  one last playdate at our house.  There was some outdoor water fighting going on before these pictures were taken.

Tuesday:  a drop off playdate with some of Quinn's best buddies from school.

Wednesday:  a day at the park with his best girlfriends from his first and second year at Sundance.  I love these kids and their moms.

Thursday:  gymnastics and lunch with the twins.  These two always make me smile.

Also on Thursday one last hug from Marleny.  She has been such a part of our family over the last 4+ years and we will all miss her.  Fortunately we think the new owners of the house will keep her on and they are expecting a baby on September 15!

We have made so many great memories in this house.

The Farewell Visit

The McGee's made their farewell visit to NJ last weekend.  As usual, a weekend full of laziness and laughter.

Let's just say Apple products played a prominent role in our weekend :)

On Friday we were planning to go to the beach but had a last minute inspection scheduled for 3:30 pm.  So instead these two stayed in their pajamas all day cuddled on the couch trading ipads.  One of the funnier moments was caught watching a you tube video.

Let's just say if you're not amused by Yoda and farting move on you must.

We finally got out of the house and are on our way to the beach with beach chairs strapped to the roof, Jersey Style.

We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon in Long Branch.  Nothing like having your toes in the sand.

Bruno Mars approaching from camera right.  Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah Ooh!

Sullivan chilling in her chair reading a book and taking in the scene.

Don and Quinn playing monkey with the waves.

This boy was getting hammered by the waves.

Then stand up and take it again and again.

The McGee Three.

Sullivan is just so great with Quinn and he just loves her.
